Enjoying putting together a course on Personal Resilience for a construction company next week.
We’ve been talking about our inner saboteurs, the internal voices that we have in our head that can be persistently negative and undermine our sense of competence and well-being. Perhaps most common are the inner judge, perfectionist/stickler, people pleaser and controller – which all feature in the Positive Intelligence model (pictured below).
A common strategy recommended for working with our saboteurs is building self-awareness so that we can challenge unproductive ways of thinking and find new, more balanced perspectives. I think this also needs to be balanced alongside self-compassion, as otherwise the risk can be we put too much pressure on ourselves to change which becomes counter-productive.
I've also been reflecting on the importance of somatic approaches, we will definitely be including some breathing and mindfulness exercises!
